Identification of superior Cinnamomum zeylanicum Blume germplasm for future true cinnamon breeding in the world

Cinnamomum zeylanicum Blume, commonly known as Ceylon cinnamon or true has gained worldwide attention than ever due to recent scientific pieces of evidence on its health benefits and medicinal applications. consists a higher concentration beneficial chemical compounds, superior flavor taste while having minimum amount harmful coumarin. Our study focused morphological, yield biochemical characterization the largest C. germplasm in world. Of 515 accessions characterized separately for bark leaf composition using methanol extracts, majority had above-average values cinnamaldehyde eugenol. Interestingly, more 70 % 90 samples did not have detectable The overall average coumarin content extracts was 0.010 mg/g 0.004 respectively. large-scale fingerprinting work confirmed superiority cinnamon. After comprehensive analysis considering 25 different traits, 16 genotype were identified parental materials immediate breeding attempts release farmers after mass propagation.
